I know this may sound like a public service announcement but you can never underestimate the power of reading a good ol fashion book. Forums, discussion boards, chat rooms, and even articles like the ones on the best Game Maker website; GMLBlog.com, cannot compare when faced with the precision and effectiveness of a professional book. Now I'm not rating every book out there an absolute buy but I do know from experience that some topics are seldom discussed or explained better than in books. Take physics for example. So many articles on 3d collision dynamics. But try to find a “full” how to for 2D physics and you may just find yourself paddling up a creek that has fibre defficient pirrahna swimming in it. And guess what, your boat's made of wood! Now, I can't preach what I don't practice so take my words lightly. Now that your taking my words lightly, let me tell you something I do know; after just having received a math/physics book for programmers that I purchased from an online retailer, I can immediately see the benefit's of my decision to pay a little to get a lot. I haven't read the book so much as just skimmed some of the first chapters but I can already see that this is going to be a fine addition to my game making arsenal. Again, I'm not telling you to stop reading this website. In fact, as an experienced Game Maker user, I encourage it. Just don't give up on books. You and I both know there is more material on the internet than you could read in a lifetime, but to put it frankly, most of it is fluff, just like this article. I could have just told you to stop reading and pick up a book. But that would make you quit the internet. And if you quit, you might never get to see the rest of this site. *wink wink*
